Racha Islands, The Pinnacles & The Drop Off
Day fishing from Chalong, the hub of Phuket’s sea sports industry, is normally an 8.30 am start followed by two hours out to the main fishing “hot spots” of Racha Islands, The Pinnacles and The Drop Off. Unfortunately The Drop Off does not allow for any snorkeling as there is no land nearby and tricky currents.
Although we are happy to let you choose your destination, as many like to stop for a swim, we will always advise you where we feel the fishing will be best, information gathered from either the previous days fishing or from radio reports from other boats.
Lunch, tea, coffee, soft drinks and water are included in the price although many people like to bring their own snacks and beer always seems to be a priority, all of which are available at Chalong Pier’s 7/11.
Again, depending on the action, boats usually return around 4.30 in time for a good rest before a night on the town.
Racha Yai and Racha Noi
Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi (Yai = big / Noi = small) are definitely the most popular destination for a day trip. Racha Yai has a first class hotel a good anchorage and is also popular with divers, while Racha Noi is uninhabited apart from some mountain goats.
Staying close to shore at these islands Barracuda can be the order of the day while further out there in usually an abundance of Tuna and Rainbow Runners although as all local fishermen know anything can be caught anywhere in the Andaman Sea, which is the nursery of the Indian Ocean.
Other one day destinations are available to the keen fisherman but these fishing grounds are only marked on a few maps and in the knowledge of our local crews.
Please note
All our trips require a 50% payment in advance, the balance to be paid on the day
